  • Condition: The medal and the ribbon are in very good condition. The medal is soiled and has a nice age patina. The ribbon is intact and a bit soiled but is great undamaged state. I would grade the medal as extremely fine to about uncirculated with all its details being well preserved and having minimum wear. The back of the medal shows wear and some loss of the original golden coloring. The pinback mechanism is intact, but the end where the pin would go under is bent inwards and does not allow the pin to lock under it. We are certain that it could be opened if done carefully, but we leave that to the new owner. The ribbon itself is a bit soiled but truly nothing of concern. All in all a great medal in very good condition after being around for almost 70 years. A great piece to add to your collection. Please view photos for additional condition information and to appreciate the beauty of the medal.

    Details
    Description:
A beautiful 1948 metal medal and ribbon from the 30th National Convention of the American Legion held in Miami Florida in October 18-21, 1948. This is the official medal of the convention in great condition after being around for almost 70 years. The medal which is made of either brass or bronze (we are uncertain) is rectangular in shape with a large bill fish or dolphin jumping over the ocean and a cityscape in the background on the obverse. There is a round emblem at the top of the design with the a star having the letters US in its center. The emblem is surrounded by a blue enamel area having the words "AMERICAN LEGION" within it. The word "GREATER MIAMI" is in the bottom and the numbers 19 and 48 at opposing sides surrounding the words. There is also a banner indicating that the medal is for the 30th National Convention on top of the scene. Finally, the top of the front has a design showing flowers and fruits. The reverse of the medal is blank. The medal is attached to a short brown and purple ribbon having a brass pinback near the top. A great old medal and ribbon from a great fraternal order. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
