CMBA Catholic Mutual Benefit Association of Buffalo, N.Y. Vintage Pendant Necklace Star Insurance. Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS.
This beautifully detailed and unusual piece is great for a collector, historian or for fashion or movie use.
There are many symbols including, on the front, a six point star, anchor, cross, wreath and crown and on the back a church, sailboat and rose. No noted markings regarding the type of metal.  The gold colored with blue enamel pendant weighs approximately 6.5 grams.  The silver colored twisted link chain weighs approximately 3.4 grams and is 19.5 inches long.  I don't know if the blue jewelry box with gold colored trim was the original housing but I received it this way and will send it along.
The Catholic Mutual Benefit Association was organized in 1876.  According to the Wilkes-Barre Record this fraternal society was founded "to be the improvement of the moral, mental and social condition of its members, and the educating of them in integrity, sobriety and frugality, and to endeavor to make them contented with their position in life, and to aid and assist members of their families in case of death."  Members paid dues and were assisted with a stipulated weekly payment during times of sickness or disability.
The CMBA merged with American Insurance Union of Columbus, Ohio in 1920 which failed during the Great Depression.
